BAND OF SISTERS HAIR LOVELY

My friend Annette Lyon is a very talented author. She has numerous books published, and she has such an amazing talent for storytelling.

Well, her latest book, BAND OF SISTERS has just been released, and on Friday, 12 March 2010, at 6:00 pm at University Village Deseret Book, in Orem, UT, she and a few other authors are having a book launch party.

I am so excited to announce that TWO of my hair lovelies will be in a give away for fans who come to the Launch party!

As you know, no two of my lovelies are the same, and so I am making brand new ones specifically for this night. Because I love you all so much, I am giving you a sneak peek of one of the two BAND OF SISTERS hair lovelies.

More pictures are coming, but here is the sneak peek. I love the way it turned out! It is a hair lovely that is attached to a skinny headband.

Lovely Soft Baby Hats

I am stepping out of the box here, and posting something a little different. Did you know that I make hats too? I made a hat for my lovely friend Heather, for a photo prop, and she loved it so much.

I have added a toned-down lovely with a wrapped headband for a different look. It's still fancy, it's still lovely, and it still makes the wearer feel happy.

Something a little less fancy- but still lovely

There are a lot of people out there who think they can't pull off fancy hair lovelies. I say to you, you need to fake it till you make it! That means, simply, that you need to own it. You need to pretend like it works for you, and then, it will.

But, for those who are still convinced that a fancy lovely is too over the top, I present these hand knitted lovelies for your viewing pleasure.

They are $3.50 each, or two for $5.00. Why have one when you can have two?

These, as with the others, can be sported alone in the hair, or hooked to a headband. Hand knitted headbands are only $10.00, and you can get them here! (A sample of the knitted headband can be seen in the post previous to this one, though I will be posting pictures of just headbands in the future).

To a very special lady

In the last few months, my cousin Sharon has been battling breast cancer, and battling it bravely.

On a separate note, I have been feeling the need to feel a little prettier lately, and decided to try my hand at making some truly pretty things to wear. I wanted to feel like, no matter what I was going through at any given time, I could put something in my hair and feel truly lovely.

These two, seemingly unrelated topics have come together to form this endeavor. After posting some pictures of hair lovelies, (that's what I call them, because not only are they lovely, they make me FEEL lovely when I wear them) on my personal facebook account and on my personal blog, I found that I had created something that other people liked as well. One of those people is my cousin Sharon.

I felt inspired to make her a very personal hair lovely, to help her feel a little prettier, even when she is undergoing chemo and radiation therapies. After posting a very personal post about this particular lovely, it got me thinking about another lovely that I loved very much who lost her battle with Breast Cancer.

The amazing lady whom I am talking about is my beautiful Auntie Lola. This woman, was spunky, kind, generous, creative, and hilarious. She was, of course more than that, but there aren't enough words to describe this amazing woman.

She loved to be pretty, and was she! I remember as a little girl, we would visit her, and I would sit by her side and watch her put on her make up and her jewelry and curl her hair, and I would think to myself, "She is so beautiful," and she really, truly was.

I remember when we found out she had breast cancer, she cried to me one day about losing her hair and her breasts. She was so concerned that she wouldn't feel good about herself anymore, that she wouldn't look or feel like herself ever again.

I also remember a visit before her chemo started when she, my mother and I all tried on the wigs she had bought, and laughed until we cried, and then laughed some more. She could always find the positive, silly, funny side to things, even if she was scared to death on the inside.

During her treatments, she kept her beauty, both in spirit and in appearance. Perhaps the ordeal made her more beautiful to me. She had no hair, had lost both of her breasts, was weak, and she managed to still put her lipstick on, and smile and laugh. Her inner beauty shined through so much, that she seemed to radiate beauty, even though she felt ugly and unwomanly. Oh, she was gorgeous, and so graceful.

Lately I have been thinking about her a lot; How brave she was, how beautiful she was inside and out, and how artistic and creative she was. She would have loved to make these hair lovelies with me, and would have worn them proudly.

Because of this, because, maybe for just a moment, I want to feel her close to me again. I want to feel her passion for life and for people. I want to feel beautiful and to make something beautiful, like she did.

So, whether you are going through a tremendously difficult experience, or whether you just want to have a touch more beauty in your day, I think I have what you are looking for, and I am driven by the memory of a truly beautiful, courageous, creative, passionate woman, whom I miss very much.

To quote a movie we watched together whenever we could:

"I would rather have 2 minutes of wonderful, than a lifetime of nothing special."

Women, we are warriors of the most gentle kind, and we deserve wonderful things.
